Long Kiss Goodbye
Buck drove into the parking lot behind The Saloon, the usual hangout of
the ATF agents. JD was already waiting for him, leaning against his bike, his
face telling Wilmington that he doesn't like having to wait for him.
Buck grinned , enjoying the fact that he pissed off the Kid again. He
came out of his 1957 GMW Pickup and locked the door behind him, then turned
around, only to be verbally attacked by JD: "Where the heck were ya, Buck?
I was waitin' half an hour in this cold fer ya. Ya better have one damn good excuse at hand..."
Buck just grinned and put his hand over JD's shoulder, pulling the Kid behind him: "Sorry Kid.I was at the store t' buy somethin' an'..."
JD angrily pushed his hand from his shoulder and said, annoyed: "Let me
guess, ya met a woman!"
The ladies' man nodded, then made his way towards The Saloon and said
over his shoulder: "And a real fine lookin' one, too." But his mind was already
on something else. Or, more like it, on *someone* else. "Now, let's go see if Inez's workin' today..."
JD rolled his eyes, then went after Wilmington, anger still burning in him for being left to wait for so long. A proper apology once in a while wouldn't hurt. But nooooooooo, getting a *proper* apology out of Buck for something like this was like getting Ezra to quit gambling. Damn near impossible!
They came inside, only to find The Saloon packed to the fullest, and none of their colleagues anywhere in sight.
Buck turned to JD and yelled into his ear to be heard over the music:
"Where are the others?"
JD shrugged and yelled back: "Dunno... Ez said they'll be here later-"
But Buck wasn't paying attention, as his gaze was already following a cute waitress around. JD sighed, then waved his hand in front of the older man's face.
Buck swatted the hand away, saying distractedly: "JD, ya're blockin' my view..."
JD answered sarcastically: "That's the intention, Buck!"
Buck, his eyes already on another woman that just went by, replied absently: "Huh? Did ya just say somethin', JD?"
JD threw his hands in the air dramatically, already regretting he waited for Buck at all. You couldn't have a decent conversation with the ladies' man if there were *any* ladies whatsoever around.
Dunne made his way towards the bar, got a hold of a stool and sat down.
Inez wasn't working today, but he was sure as hell Buck won't notice that at all. He ordered a drink from Jim, the bartender the ATF agents were already on first name basis with, then turned around to see where Buck was. Buck was chatting with a cute lady, and she slipped him a piece of paper in the
hand, before she left for the bathroom. Her phone number, JD figured. His assumption confirmed as a widely grinning Buck joined him at the bar. "I tell ya, boy, my animal magnetism is workin' better than ever! I just got her phone number *and* the number of her friend!" he grinned, very satisfied.
JD didn't answer, just rolled his eyes. Buck ordered his drink, and
when he got it, turned around to scan the room for something he might have
missed. And that was when *she* caught his attention. Actually, it was her
laughter that did.
At the table, a few feet away from the two of them, sat a young woman,
dressed all in black. She had green eyes and light brown hair. She
was with a friend, who had blue eyes and blonde wavy hair, and was also dressed
in black. The two were laughing, and their laughter was what caught
Wilmington's attention.
JD got Buck to snap out of downright staring at the poor woman by
saying: "Buck? Buck, are ya still with me?"
Buck smiled widely and showed in the direction of the two girls with
his glass: "Now that there, JD, is a mere vision of beauty!"
JD followed his gaze and noticed the two girls himself. Well, he
couldn't disagree, but he was annoyed by Buck's constant flirt attempts, and
not to mention he liked the girls, and didn't want to come over as a complete
jerk to them because of hanging out with 'womanising Wilmington'. Not
to mention the worst thing possible - to come over just the same as Buck - a mere
simple-minded satire. He asked, trying to mask his anxiety behind a
poker face, but failing rather miserably: "Ya ain't gonna go there, are ya,
Buck?"
Instead of an answer he got a tug on the jacket, and JD found
himself being pulled to the girls' table. The whole escapade coming rather unexpectedly to
JD made him spill his beer over his pants, in a rather delicate spot. He
yelled, angry: "Damn it, Buck, watch it!!!"
But suddenly he realized he was standing right in front of the two
girls. He blushed and stammered: "I...Uh, well... I... Ah'm, I'm sorry."
Buck didn't pay attention to his younger friend's embarrassing
situation, he just whispered into his ear: "You keep the other one busy, Kid!"
Then he flashed the two ladies a beaming smile and asked: "Would you
two charmin' ladies mind if we joined ya?"
The two girls already noticed Buck and JD looking from the bar at
them, and they didn't mind. They also witnessed JD's 'accident', and
laughed, but managed to keep a straight face when the two made it to their table.
The brunette smiled invitingly at Buck and showed to the chair next to
her, then said in a fetching accent: "No, we wouldn't mind at all...
Please, sit down."
Buck raised an eyebrow when he heard that accent, but sat down next
to her without a comment, smiling at her. She smiled back, and then gave her
friend a winning look. The other one didn't notice that, as she was
looking at JD. JD was so embarrassed he would welcome lightning that would strike him
dead, or at least rendered him unconscious, with open hands right now.
Well, just add this girl I actually like to the list of all the others
Buck managed to embarrass me in front off.
He thought to himself, but he was surprised that she smiled sweetly
at him and handed him a handkerchief: "Here, I think you can use this right
now."
JD's blush deepened, and he didn't know how to answer at first. Then
he relaxed and smiled gratefully at her: "Thank you!"
He sat down next to her and extended his hand to her. "JD. Pleased to
meet you."
She took his hand and smiled back: "Kat. Nice to meet you, too."
He smiled gratefully at her once more and tried to wipe his
pants: "Thanks. I can be so clumsy at times..."
Kat nodded understandingly: "It happens. And besides, it seems to me
that what happened wasn't exactly your fault."
JD followed her gaze and grinned. Buck and Kat's friend were already
deeply involved in a conversation.
Buck noticed that they are looking at them, and smiled: "JD, this is
Janet! Janet, this is my little buddy and roommate JD."
JD snapped at Buck: "I *ain't* little, Buck!" Then he smiled a shy
smile at Janet, who smiled back at him. "Sorry Ma'am!"
Janet giggled: "It's OK... And it's Janet."
"All right... Janet." JD acknowledged. They shook hands across the
table.
Then Janet continued: "Oh, Buck, you haven't met my friend already,
have you?"
Buck shook his head and smiled at Kat: "No, I haven't."
Janet introduced them: "Buck, this is Kat, my friend. Kat, this is
Buck."
Kat and Buck smiled to each other and shook hands. Then Buck
asked: "So, where are you gals from? I hear by your accents ya ain't from here.
Am I right?"
"Yes!" they answered simultaneously, and laughed at that.
Finally Janet said: "We're on holidays here. Otherwise, we're from
Europe."
"Really?!" asked Buck and JD simultaneously, and then looked at each
other. Buck's yes were saying 'I told ya we hit a jackpot with these two!'
JD, on the other hand, wasn't so pleased with that revelation. That
would mean that anything serious was out of the question here. And was he
ever sorry, because Kat sure seemed nice. More than nice even, he liked
her a lot, and he only just met her.
He was distracted out of his thoughts by Buck's next question: "So,
you're lookin' fer some fun then, while ya're here?"
Janet giggled in response: "We sure are!"
Kat sighed. Janet *never* giggled. This meant it was serious. But she
could understand - this handsome boisterous man had every ladies he
spoke with eating out of his hand. And even she had to strain not to giggle in
his presence. Not because this was against every conviction she
treasured, but because she knew for sure that would most certainly turn away the
handsome young man that sat next to her. And she didn't want that, she liked
him too much. So she turned around to JD and smiled: "So, JD, what do you
do?"

A few hours and lots of drinks later, the four were laughing loudly,
talking and whispering to each other's ears, and showing very clearly
to everyone else in the bar who was with whom. Namely, Janet with Buck, and Kat
with JD.
Finally, Janet said, after a few subtle (and then not so subtle anymore)hints from Kat: "Guys, I am very sorry to bring this wonderful
evening to an end, but we really should be going..."
Buck nodded understandingly: "Of course, Janet. Now, how are ya two
goin' to the hotel?"
Kat, who was, with JD's help, just putting her jacket on, smiled at
him: "With a cab, of course!"
Buck shook his head: "Oh no, I can't let ya go with a cab. God knows
what might happen to you! *I'll* take you home."
Kat looked at JD, who answered her unspoken plea almost before she
could even think it: "Nah, I'll take Kat home, Buck. You take Janet!"
Buck looked at Janet, who smiled. He nodded: "All right, Kid. See ya
at home, then."
JD answered distractedly: "Yeah, sure Buck. Bye Janet!"
"Bye Buck! See ya later, Janet!" Kat said.
Janet waved goodbye, and then JD and Kat left. Janet turned to Buck,
who smiled at her: "Here, let's get your coat, too, it's gonna be cold
outside..."
Janet shivered because of his deep, husky voice. She smiled when he
helped her, and felt warm all over when his hands touched her neck, gently
caressing across it, as brushing against her by accident.
She was hardly able to thank him. He put his hand around her waist and
gently led her towards the exit. She felt dazed, a bit from the
drinks she had, and a large amount because of his presence. Damn, was the man
attractive!!! She could hardly resist the urge to kiss him right
there and then.
She didn't even know how they got to the car, or how she got *in* his
car. Or where the drove. All this time they were silent, and she was too
distracted by his presence to even notice that. As he stopped the car
on the parking lot in front of the hotel, she was too nervous to say
anything. She was never this nervous in her entire life. She smiled at
him: "I... Thank you, Buck!"
He nodded: "Don't mention it, Darlin'."
They paused for a few seconds, just looking at each other, and finally
Janet interrupted the silence by saying: "Well, I should be goin'
now..."
But she didn't move.
Buck smiled: "Do you mind if I escort you to your room?"
Janet shook her head and could hardly utter: "No... Not at all."
*7*7*7*7*7*7*7*
As they were standing in front of her room, Janet sighed: "Well, I
guess this is goodbye then..."
She gave herself a mental kick because she sounded desperate even to
herself. If Buck noticed that, he didn't let it show. He just gently
took her hand and pulled her closer, embracing her. "Well, that would be a
damn shame..." he whispered. She looked at him, and blue eyes locked with
green ones.
"I... Buck..." she managed to whisper, but he placed a finger over her
lips:"Shh... No, don't say a word, Darlin'. Let me just say goodbye
*my* way."
Janet was pretty sure she's gonna faint right there and then, as her
legs were giving out on her. All she could do was stare into those blue
eyes and lean heavily against him, letting him support her, and that way
became even more dazed by his presence.
He leaned closer, and when she didn't try anything to stop him, his
lips gently touched hers. Janet felt as if a hundred lightning bolts would
flash through her body. His tongue slowly brushed over her lips, and
she opened them willingly. His tongue entered her mouth, and found hers. They
were gently caressing each other, and after a long while, but it seemed to
Janet that all too soon, he moved away from her. Disappointment
filled her, and it must have shown on her face, because Buck said: "Darlin',*this* was goodbye!"
He wanted to let go of her, but she wouldn't let go of him. She said
with determination: "Stay for the night!"
Buck hesitated: "Now, Darlin', are ya sure?"
Janet nodded: "More than ever!"
Buck pulled her closer again, and before his lips touched hers again,
whispered: "*This* is one goodbye you'll never forget!"
